This glass carving was installed above theclient's bed in a master bedroom to create a skylight effect and set a romantic mood.
Three techniques are used: etching, multi-stage carving
and shaded etching. It is etched on the front and back.Glass carving isconsidered a cold-working technique; as is stained glass.
Any glass technique, not employing the use of heat is considered cold-working. After a design is determined, a resist covers the glass. In the case of a sand-blasted carving such as this one, the design is drawn and then cut out with a knife. The artwork is worked from the back and viewed from the front. Each piece is individually cut and blasted section by section in reverse until the piece is finished.
